Name change to clarify work of Assembly committee

4 November 2009

An Assembly Committee will be re-named after Members voted in favour of the change this afternoon(Nov 4).

The Independent Panel, which was set up to look into the system of financial support for Members and which reported in July, felt that the present name of the Audit Committee was confusing.

The panel recommended that the focus of the current Audit Committee would be better reflected by renaming it the Public Accounts Committee..

“This exercise better reflects the work that the committee is doing,” said Audit Committee Chair, Jonathan Morgan AM.

“Changing Audit to the Public Accounts Committee reflects more accurately its role in protecting the public purse in Wales.”
