National Assembly Standards Commissioner launches new website

19 December 2012

The National Assembly for Wales’s Standards Commissioner , Gerard Elias QC, has launched a new website.

Its aim is to make the Assembly’s standards of conduct arrangements for Members more open and transparent.

The site, which can be visited at http://standardscommissionerwales.org/ , will hold information about the role of the Commissioner, the Members’ Code of Conduct and how to make a complaint if you think a Member is in breach of the Code of Conduct.

“The National Assembly Commission brought forward the Commissioner for Standards Measure, in 2009, to strengthen the role of the Commissioner for Standards and to make the system more transparent and independent,” said Mr Elias.

“I have now set up a new website which I believe further cements that independence, transparency and openness because it is distinct and separate from the Assembly’s own website.

“My role is to uphold reputations, safeguard standards and address concerns regarding the conduct of Assembly Members.

“Welsh voters can now visit the Standards Commissioner website to find out more about the work I do, and how to use the process if they feel a Member has breached the standards of conduct expected of them by the Assembly.”
