Petitions committee to discuss traffic free network for Wales

Sustainable transport charity, Sustrans Cymru, will discuss the petition it has submitted to the Assembly with the Petitions Committee on Thursday December 6th.  The petition is calling for the National Assembly for Wales to seek a Legislative Competence Order to develop and maintain a network of traffic free paths for walkers, cyclists and disabled people across Wales. The submitted petition is backed by a number of organisations including Friends of the Earth Cymru, Age Concern Cymru, and the Council for National Parks.

The committee will also hear from staff, students and parents of Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg, about their petition against the changing of the name from Rhydfelen after the school’s recent site relocation.

Powys Community Schools Action will call for a review of the provision of services, particularly education, to identify cost effective ways of protecting rural communities in Wales.

The following petitions will also be discussed:

  • Support for young carers

  • Amendment to the Student Loan Regulations relating to Previous Study

  • Holiday Homeowners in Wales to be Charged Double Council Tax

The meeting takes place in Committee Room 1, the Senedd from 1.00pm until 3.00pm. Full details and an agenda
