Presiding Officer to visit Royal Welsh show to raise profile of enhanced law-making Assembly

17 July 2011 The National Assembly for Wales’s Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, will be visiting the Royal Welsh Show on Monday 18 and Wednesday 20 July.

Mrs Butler intends to meet with organisations and individuals, who live and work in Wales’s rural communities, to talk about what they want to see from the new Assembly which now has enhanced law-making powers.

In particular, she will highlight the new committee structure which is intended to make it easier for people to engage with the Assembly and the influence the laws made by the Assembly.

She will also talk about how people can directly influence the law-making process by submitting a petition to the Assembly’s Petitions Committee.

“I want everyone in Wales to know that the National Assembly will listen to them,” said Mrs Butler.

“That’s why, during my term of office, I want to get out and meet as many people as possible, in order to spread the word that the National Assembly wants to bring forward legislation that will improve the lives of everyone in Wales.

“Visiting the Royal Welsh show means I can meet people who represent different facets of rural and agricultural life in Wales and discuss with them what they think the Assembly should be working on.”
