Promoting awareness and understanding of Welsh, UK and European politics among north Wales pupils
12 June 2012
On Friday 15 June, year 12 students from schools in north Wales will have an opportunity to take part in four workshops as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate studies.
During the all-day event, which is being held at the Welsh Government’s Llandudno Junction Office, staff from the National Assembly for Wales’s Education Service, Welsh Government outreach officers and invited speakers will outline the role of various political institutions in Wales, the UK and Europe.
The aim of the event is to:
support the delivery of Wales, Europe and the World module of the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification
promote awareness and understanding of the political structures that affect Wales
raise awareness of resources available for students and teachers; and
contribute to the development of a Welsh civil society.
Similar workshops were held at Siambr Hywel during November and December 2011 and at Aberystwyth University in March 2012. During these events, students have gained a deeper understanding of different legislatures and governments on a national and European level and have been able to appreciate how politics affects their everyday lives.
Over the course of these four events, 30 schools and nearly 200 pupils will have taken part and listened to speakers from the European Parliament, the UK Parliament’s education service and Local Authority representatives.
