Proposed Red Meat Measure approved by National Assembly for Wales

12 March 2010

The National Assembly for Wales has voted to pass a proposed measure designed to improve promotion of the red meat industry in Wales.

The Proposed Red Meat Industry (Wales) Measure ensures money raised from levies on red meat will be reinvested in the industry.

The Assembly’s Legislation Committee No. 3 agreed with the general principles of the measure in a report released in December last year.

At the time the Chair of the Committee, Dr Dai Lloyd AM said: “There are lots of people employed in the red meat sector in all part of Wales which is why this Measure is so important.

“That’s why we’re backing this move which will give the ability to streamline the promotion of the industry in Wales to ensure it has a viable future.”

The proposed measure will now be sent for Royal approval in the Queen’s Privy Council.
