Merthyr singer/songwriter Kizzy Crawford will perform in a showcase of young Welsh musical talent during this year’s St David’s Day celebrations at the National Assembly for Wales.

Kizzy, who won the Arts Connect Original Singer-Songwriter prize in 2012 and has worked with grammy award-winning Welsh songwriter Amy Wadge, will appear at a public reception at the Senedd.

Also performing will be acts from BBC Cymru Wales's Horizons Project including Danielle Lewis and Aled Rheon as well as the Beaufort Male Voice choir.

During the event the Senedd will be lit up in the colours of the Welsh flag.

Earlier in the day forty visiting children from a Bridgend school will take part in a St David’s Day party with arts and crafts before the arrival of the annual St David’s Day message.

For the first time the message will be written by the Bishop of St David’s, Joanna Penberthy, Wales’s first woman bishop.

“Music is such a wonderful thread in the fabric of Welsh culture, so I am looking forward to showcasing some of our brightest talent at the Senedd on St David’s Day,” said Elin Jones AM, Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales.

“I am also very much looking forward to the first St David’s Day message from the first female bishop in Wales, Joanna Penberthy, as it is so important we mark the richness and diversity of our Welsh society.”

In the run up to 1 March the National Assembly has also be asking people to express what Wales means to them in one word. Suggestions will be made into a series of Welsh-themed images and displayed in the Senedd.

People can still make suggestions via the Assembly’s social media channels, through suggestions boxes in the Senedd and Pierhead or through photos and videos.

Anyone wishing to attend the evening reception can book tickets by visiting the event section on National Assembly’s Senedd Facebook page.
