Statement from the National Assembly for Wales Commission

24 June 2011

The National Assembly for Wales has received confirmation that no criminal charges are to be brought against either of the two Liberal Democrat candidates, who were elected as Assembly Members when they were disqualified from membership of the Assembly as a result of being members of organisations listed in the National Assembly (Disqualification) Order 2010.

Following that decision, the National Assembly has now resumed its investigation into the circumstances that led to the two individuals being nominated and elected when subject to those disqualifications.

The Assembly’s Commissioner for Standards, Gerard Elias QC, has been appointed by the Clerk of the Assembly, Claire Clancy, to carry out the investigation and to report to the Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, when the investigation has been completed.”
