Third Assembly Opened
Her Majesty the Queen has officially opened the Third Assembly, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Assembly Members and members of the Judiciary were present at the ceremony in the Senedd, at which the mace was carried in to the Siambr to signify the opening of the Assembly. The Queen then signed a commemorative parchment to announce the opening of the Third Assembly.
The band of the Royal Marines performed outside the Senedd and members of the public including school children, senior citizens and representatives of voluntary organisations came to see the Royal party arrive. There was also a 21-gun salute performed by HMS Exeter which has been moored in the Roath Basin for the past week.
The National Youth Symphonic Brass Band and the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Schools Choir performed inside the Senedd.
