Three hundred Pontypridd students to put politicians on the spot

03 November 2011

Four National Assembly Members will be put on the spot on Friday 4 November when around 300 sixth-form students take part in a “Question Time” event at Hawthorn High School in Pontypridd.

Mick Antoniw AM, Andrew RT Davies AM, Eluned Parrot AM and Leanne Wood AM will be questioned by the students – who are from three Pontypridd secondary schools - on topics including recycling, health, the economy, education and the environment.

The event will be chaired by Dilwyn Young-Jones, South Wales Education Outreach Officer for the National Assembly.

He said: “Events such as this give young people the opportunity to directly engage with the democratic process, by asking their elected politicians about the issues that affect their day-to-day lives.

“I have no doubt that the quality of questions from the students, many of whom are studying politics, will be high and I hope they go away from today encouraged to become involved in politics and democracy in Wales.”

The event has been organised by the National Assembly’s Education Outreach service in conjunction with Ceri Wilson, Head of Welsh Baccalaureate at Hawthorn High School. It will take place from 14:00 – 15:00.
