The Senedd Commission has been recognised for its family friendly workplace culture and support for employees with parental and caring responsibilities.
The Working Families charity has included the Senedd among its top 10 Employers for 2020. The benchmark recognises employers across the UK who strive to support a better work-life balance for working parents and carers.
The Senedd Commission employs staff who administer and support the parliament’s functions, from clerking and administering the Plenary and Committee meetings, to ITC services, public engagements and events, to security and managing the Senedd’s buildings.
Lowri Williams, Head of Human Resources and Inclusion Services, and Senior Champion of the Senedd’s Parent and Carer Network Teulu, said; “We strive to provide support that allows our employees to maintain a positive work-life balance for the benefit of their health, relationships and their contentment at work, therefore it is an honour to receive this recognition as one of the top 10 Employers for Working Families. It is a further delight to receive it during a period of national uncertainty which has seen working families juggle their ongoing commitment to delivering excellent services alongside increased caring responsibilities.”
Meriel Singleton is the Chair of the employees Teulu network, which supports working parents and carers and is a forum for issues which might affect them. Meriel says; “I really believe, as a working parent, the supportive and inclusive culture which exists in the Senedd has helped me manage the many challenges that come with trying to juggle being a parent and having a fulfilling career – and that this does not just apply for the last few months which have been exceptionally challenging.”
