Understand and influence! Free workshop aimed at informing young people

The National Assembly for Wales’s Outreach Service will host the first in a series of free informative workshops, in Aberystwyth, on January 29.

The workshop is aimed at community youth groups, organisations involved with young people, and young people themselves.

Called ‘Understanding and Influencing the National Assembly’, it will cover areas such as who Assembly Members are and how people and organisations can influence the Assembly’s work.

It’ll also explain what Plenary meetings are, the work done by the legislation and scrutiny committees and how it all affects people all over Wales.

It is hoped that delegates go away with a better understanding of how the Assembly’s work impacts on their daily lives and how they can engage with that work.

Presiding Officer for the National Assembly, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, said: “These workshops form part of an ongoing drive to increase engagement in the democratic process in Wales – a priority for devolution to prosper in the future.”

“The Outreach service takes the Assembly to all corners of Wales and the workshop is a good example of this in action.

“It will be a positive opportunity for people to learn about the Assembly and the importance of participating in the democratic process and I hope that delegates find it useful, informative, and go away inspired to get involved in the work that goes on in the Assembly”.
