Winners of second non-government Members’ Bill ballot announced

29 November 2011

The Presiding Officer of the National Assembly Wales has announced the two winning proposals in the second non-government Members’ Bill ballot.

Peter Black AM and Mohammad Asghar AM will now have the opportunity to put their proposals before the full Assembly which will then decide whether or not they can each go on to introduce a Bill.

Mr Black’s proposal for a Park Homes (Wales) Bill aims to regulate more fairly the process by which residential caravans and mobile homes are managed and sold in Wales.

Mr Asghar’s proposal for an Enterprise (Wales) Bill aims to make the Welsh Government take steps to make the Welsh economy more competitive and remain accountable for progress in this area to the National Assembly and the Welsh business community by requiring it to set a strategy and targets for economic development.

The announcement was made during this afternoon’s Plenary meeting at the Senedd.

“These ballots, and the debate on the proposal which will follow, are an important part of our efforts to make the National Assembly more responsive to the needs of the people of Wales,” said the Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM.

“They, and the Individual Members Debates, also give backbench Members more opportunities to influence Assembly Business and to bring to the fore issues which are relevant to the people they serve.”
