Young Disabled People to address Equality of Opportunity Committee

A group of young disabled people will address the next meeting of the Equality of Opportunity Committee on Thursday January 24th.

The young people from all parts of Wales were members of a reference group who helped the committee with its inquiry into Service Provision for Young Disabled People and its subsequent report, which was published in January 2007.

Twelve months on from the publication of the report, they are returning to the Senedd to tell members whether the report and its recommendations have made a difference to their lives and how they believe the recommendations can be moved on.

Chair of the Committee, Ann Jones said: “I am delighted the young people have been able to return to the committee to tell us what difference, if any the inquiry and report have made to their lives. We are very grateful to them for sharing their experience with us and for all the help they gave the committee in producing and launching the report a year ago.

“As the group members are all growing up and moving on, this will be the last time for us to meet with the group and I would like to wish them all well for the future.”

The Committee will also discuss the Equal Pay Campaign with representatives from the Equality and Human Rights Commision, Wales, The Wales TUC and Unison Cymru Wales.

The meeting takes place in Committee Room 3, the Senedd, Cardiff Bay from 9.30am until midday.
