‘Make it Right’ is a poignant collaboration between The Water Poets and Carmarthen School of Art, connecting over 1,000 young creatives from Carmarthenshire and Alabama through art and music.

The project draws inspiration from John Petts’ stained glass window, created in response to the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, which killed four young Black girls.

During Summer 2023, schools across Carmarthenshire were visited to tell this story, inviting pupils to respond through their own artwork. The Water Poets composed an original musical score, helping to deepen the emotional impact of the project.

Using the pupils’ work, Domingos Studios developed a moving digital animation, now a key focus of the exhibition. Alongside it sits a beautifully embroidered blanket, stitched by Carmarthen School of Art staff and students, one of which has been gifted to the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum.

The exhibition also showcases independent pieces by college students, reflecting on themes of justice, remembrance, and cross-cultural solidarity.

At its heart, Make it Right stands as a powerful expression of international empathy, proudly supporting the Welsh Government’s Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan and demonstrating Wales’ role in amplifying voices of peace and unity across borders.
