The Welsh Parliament/Senedd Cymru is seeking candidates for appointment as the next Auditor General for Wales (AGW). This is one of the most significant public appointments in Wales, offering a unique opportunity to lead an independent office central to the integrity, accountability, and transparency of public finances in Wales.
The AGW is a vital independent voice providing objective, evidence-based insights into how public money is spent. The AGW is responsible for auditing around £28 billion of annual public expenditure in Wales and for leading Audit Wales, an organisation of c.280 staff with a budget of £28.4 million. The role requires complete independence from government, providing assurance to the Senedd and the people of Wales that public money is used legally, effectively, and in ways that deliver value for money.
As Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of Audit Wales, this person will shape and deliver its strategy, championing high-quality, evidence-based public audit, and working with stakeholders across Wales and beyond to promote confidence in public services.
The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader, with deep experience of public audit, financial accountability, or senior organisational leadership. They will bring independence of mind, credibility with senior stakeholders, and the ability to represent Audit Wales nationally and internationally.
