Point of Order
Jeff Cuthbert sought the Presiding Officer's advice on matters raised by Trish Law during her contribution to the debate on the Standards Committee's Annual Report on 23 June 2010.
The Presiding Officer ruled that the Standards Commissioner and the Chair of the Standards Committee have acted at all times in accordance with the Assembly's agreed procedures and rules in this matter. He further stated that all Members must accept the Commissioner's independence, objectivity and right to investigate complaints as he sees fit, to allow him to undertake his role effectively.
The Presiding Officer stated that it is therefore not in order for any Member to criticise the decisions or actions of the Commissioner or his dealings with the Committee on Standards of Conduct. It is also out of order to refer to the detail of any individual complaint or investigation.
