Questions to the Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy and Transport

David Melding (South Wales Central): What measures are in place to further the EU’s campaign to 'think small first’ as a way to promote the growth of SME’s? (WAQ52561)

The Deputy First Minister: Our Flexible Support for Business and Single Investment Fund (www.business-support-wales.gov.uk) were specifically devised to make delivery of Welsh Assembly Government assistance for small businesses simpler and prevent confusion over what can be offered to help them thrive and grow.

David Melding (South Wales Central): What measures are in place to implement the European Commission’s Small Business Act for Europe? (WAQ52562)

The Deputy First Minister: Many aspects of the act in areas devolved to Wales are already covered by our Flexible Support for Business and Single Investment Fund (www.business-support-wales.gov.uk); the recent Skills that Work for Wales and the Opening Doors Charter for SME Friendly Procurement, commenced in 2006.

Questions to the Minister for Health and Social Services

Jenny Randerson (Cardiff Central): When is it expected that the School Nursing Strategy will be published? (WAQ52558)

The Minister for Health and Social Services (Edwina Hart): The consultation on the development of a Family Nurse Service for Wales was issued 15th September 2008 for 12 weeks. Results will be available early 2009.

Jenny Randerson (Cardiff Central): Is the Minister planning to roll the money allocated to school nursing forward into next year as a result of delays in the publication of the strategy and will it be ring fenced? (WAQ52559)

Edwina Hart: While it is not possible to carry forward under spends from one year to the next, there is currently £1.5 million available to support the strategy in 2009-10 and £2 million in 2010-11. Should the strategy indicate that more funding will be needed to deliver our One Wales commitment by the end of this Assembly Term it will be dealt with through the annual budget setting process.
