Questions to the Minister for Health and Social Services

Andrew R.T. Davies (South Wales Central): Will the Minister make a statement on the closure of the Bodnant EMI unit in Conwy? (WAQ54555)

The Minister for Health and Social Services (Edwina Hart): Conwy Local Health Board and the North Wales NHS Trust, together with Conwy County Borough Council and Conwy Community Health Councils, are reviewing the elderly mental health and well-being services for Conwy residents including those provided historically at the Bodnant Unit. Before any new plans are implemented I have asked my North Wales Regional Director to undertake an immediate consultation with users of the service, their carers and their representative organisations, such as the Alzheimer’s Society and Age Concern to ensure their views about the demand for all forms of elderly mental health care in the County are understood fully and that the new plans address these needs.

When this further engagement is complete I expect to receive a new fit for purpose Conwy County Plan for EMI Services.
