Work Opportunity: Communications and Parliamentary Manager for Mair Rowlands MS, Elfed Williams MS and Rhun ap Iorwerth MS

Salary range (pro rata): £39,274 - £50,496

All new staff are expected to enter on the scale minimum of the appropriate pay band.  Individual staff will, subject to satisfactory performance, move up the incremental scale one point at a time on the anniversary of their commencement of employment until they reach the scale maximum for their band.

Please note that this role is being advertised full-time post of 37 hours per week.  The advertising Member is committed to working with the other Members of their party elected to the constituency they represent.  The role will be divided between multiple Members.
In addition to Mair Rowlands MS, the other Members of their party representing the constituency Bangor Conwy Môn, who may appoint to this role are Rhun ap Iorwerth MS and Elfed Williams MS.

Purpose of job:

A Band 1 Communications Officer working for a Member of the Senedd undertakes research, press and media related work, oversees the communications strategy and manages higher-profile engagements.  They will have expertise acquired through professional or academic qualification or equivalent experience, that can be applied in a wide range of situations relevant to communications.

Main duties:

  • Developing and implementing a communications strategy aligned with the Member’s political priorities.
  • Setting the overall tone and direction for social media communications.
  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, charities, businesses, and campaign groups.
  • Drafting and refining speeches, articles, and policy briefings for the Member.
  • Managing junior staff, delegating tasks, and ensuring high-quality output.

Essential knowledge and experience:

  • A full understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks within which Members and Groups operate. This includes both Senedd frameworks (standards of conduct, expenditure etc) as well as broader and general frameworks (legal duties). Able to provide informed advice to Members and colleagues on these matters.
  • Substantial experience of the media landscape using this expertise to develop innovative, proactive media strategies, ideally within a political context. Knowledge of media law.
  • Experience of advising on media actions at a senior level and supporting teams to develop campaigns.

Essential qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or suitable alternative experience.
