16 July 2010

A delegation of students from William and Mary University in Virginia today (16 July) visited the National Assembly for Wales to learn about Welsh devolution.

The students are studying devolution as part of a course in British Politics, and came to Cardiff having already visited Westminster.

They were welcomed by Assembly Member David Melding, who attended William and Mary University himself as a student.

Lectures were given by John Osmond, Director of the Institute of Welsh Affairs; Lee Waters, Director of Sustrans; Daran Hill, Political Commentator and Consultant and Dr Russell Holden, Director of In the Zone Sport and Politics Consultancy.

“I was delighted to welcome the William and Mary University students to Wales, and to the Pierhead which is fantastic venue and a great showcase for Wales,” said David Melding AM.

“The students are fascinated about the way politics is evolving in Wales and I’m pleased that they’ve got such a renowned line-up of guest speakers to help broaden their knowledge.

“I hope the students enjoy their time in Cardiff and go back to Virginia with a solid understanding of the way things work here in Wales.”
