Countdown to the referendum is underway

16 December 2010

The countdown to the referendum on future legislative powers for the National Assembly for Wales is officially underway.

The Privy Council has formally approved the Order that sets the question and date for the referendum which is 3 March, 2011.

The Order was agreed unanimously by Assembly Members at the Senedd last month.

The National Assembly for Wales has now launched a countdown clock on its website showing the time until the polling stations open for both the referendum and for the Welsh Assembly elections on 5 May.

The UK-wide vote on whether to adopt an Alternative Vote system for the next election of the UK Parliament will be held on the same day as the Assembly election.

The National Assembly is continuing with its campaign to provide objective and non-partisan information about the decisions Welsh voters face next year.

The Assembly bus is already on a tour of the 22 local authority areas in Wales and the Presiding Officer, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM, is also visiting key events to spread the ‘get out and vote’ message.

A micro-website containing information about the votes has also been setup.
