Democracy videos to inform and inspire Wales’s young voters

The National Assembly for Wales has produced a series of videos designed to inspire and inform Wales’s younger generation about the choices open to them in the year of Vote 2011. The videos cover subjects including who is eligible to vote, how to register to vote and what to expect on polling day. The videos are part of the National Assembly’s wider campaign of providing unbiased and impartial information on what the referendum on future legislative powers and the assembly election means for the Welsh public. For the first time the Assembly has also produced a video in British sign language to reach a wider audience – an audio only version will also be released soon. Further videos including one explaining what the referendum on 3 March is about will be published on the National Assembly website over the coming weeks. Presiding Officer, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM, said: “We are committed to inspiring the people of Wales to get involved with the democratic process. “These videos are specifically targeted at the younger generation and designed to inform without preaching and offer an unbiased, impartial approach. “They are part of our wider campaign of innovative use of new media and social networks to reach people we would otherwise miss through more traditional channels.” The videos are available to view and link to from the National Assembly’s Vote 2011 page as well as its Facebook, Youtube and Vimeo pages.
