Youngsters attending the Urdd Eisteddfod in Cardiff will be urged to have their say on the future work of the National Assembly.

Dewi the dragon will be joined by the chair of the Children & Young People’s Committee, Helen Mary Jones AM, on May 27 as he tours the Maes urging young people to get involved.

They’ll be asked to fill in a ballot paper outlining what issues they think the National Assembly and the Children and Young People Committee in particular, should be concentrating on over the next five to ten years.

It forms part of the National Assembly’s 10th anniversary outreach programme where we’re trying to get more people in Wales involved in the political process.

“The youngsters attending the Urdd Eisteddfod are our voters and even politicians of the future,” said Helen Mary Jones AM.

“So it’s essential that we get our young people interested in the work that we do here at the National Assembly.

“The best way to do that is to demonstrate that they can affect change through the work of the National Assembly and the best way to do that is to get their views on what issues we, as Assembly Members, should be looking at.”

Young people will be invited to fill out a special ballot paper indicating which policy areas they believe the National Assembly should be concentrating on.

They’ll then be able to go into a special room in the Senedd building where there’ll be polling booths and ballot boxes.

The Children & Young People Committee will then look at whether there’s any scope to carry out future inquiries on the issues raised by our young people.
