International Students to help AMs celebrate Commonwealth Day

The National Assembly for Wales will hold an international students’ seminar on Tuesday March 13th to mark Commonwealth Day. Students from Commonwealth countries who are studying in Wales will attend a special event held in the Siambr Fach at the Assembly Office. Twenty speakers from countries including Malawi, Papua New Guinea, India, Cyprus and Canada will make short presentations on issues that affect their respective Commonwealth countries to a cross-party of Assembly Members comprising Alun Cairns, Mike German, John Griffiths and Leanne Wood, who will then respond to the students. Alun Cairns AM Chair of the CPA Wales Branch Executive Committee said: ‘I look forward to celebrating Commonwealth Day at the Assembly. The seminar offers an opportunity for students from across the Commonwealth who have chosen to live and study in Wales to interact with Assembly Members and increase their understanding of the Assembly.’ After a lunchtime reception in the Oriel, delegates will tour the Senedd and watch the plenary session from the public gallery. Notes to editors: Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration held on the second Monday in March, however the Assembly will hold its events on Tuesday to allow those taking part to observe Assembly business. The event takes place at the National Assembly Offices Building Cardiff Bay on Tuesday March 13th at 10.30am. You are welcome to send a photographer and / or reporter to cover the event.
