National Assembly Commission achieving its goals

2 June 2014

The National Assembly for Wales Commission has published its third Corporate Performance Report.

It has been produced in response to a recommendation from the Assembly’s Finance Committee and covers the period between April 2013 and March 2014.

The report measures the Commission’s performance against its strategic goals, which are to provide outstanding parliamentary support; to engage with the people of Wales; to promote Wales, and to use resources wisely.

The report shows good progress across all the performance indicators.

“This report demonstrates that the Assembly Commission is on course to achieve the tough goals that it has set itself”, said Presiding Officer, Dame Rosemary Butler AM.

“For example, we have enhanced our provision of outstanding parliamentary support by successfully launching the Welsh machine translation software, in partnership with Microsoft, which has enhanced our bilingual services.

“We have seen an increase in the number of visitors to the Assembly’s estate and we have undertaken the widest-reaching consultation ever carried out by the National Assembly, with more than 3,000 young people telling us how we should engage with them.

“We have also achieved a 9 per cent reduction in energy emissions over the past year and remain ahead of our waste landfill targets.

“But the Assembly Commission recognises that there is a considerable amount of work to do if we are to achieve our ambitions for this Fourth Assembly.  We will be working hard in the areas where we can improve.”

Chief Executive and Clerk of the Assembly, Claire Clancy, said: “It is right that Wales’s law-making body should strive to reach the highest of standards, and that we should be fully accountable for our performance.

“That is why publishing our key performance data is a valuable benchmarking exercise, not only for us but for the people of Wales, to ensure that we are delivering exemplar parliamentary services.

“I am proud of the people who work for the National Assembly for Wales and the commitment they have all shown in working towards achieving our goals.”
