National Assembly Commission on course to achieve goals

10 September 2013

The National Assembly for Wales Commission has, for the first time, published a comprehensive corporate performance report.

It has been produced in response to a recommendation from the Assembly’s Finance Committee.

The report measures the Commission’s performance against its strategic goals, which are to provide outstanding parliamentary support, to engage with the people of Wales, to promote Wales, and to use resources wisely.

The report shows good progress across all the performance indicators. It will be published three times a year to provide a clear picture of the Commission’s effectiveness.

“This is a very positive report and demonstrates that the Assembly Commission is on course to achieve the tough goals that it has set itself”, said Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM.

“While I am pleased with this first report, the Assembly Commission recognises that there is a considerable amount of work to do if we are to achieve our ambitions for this Fourth Assembly. We will be working hard in the areas where we can improve.”

The KPIs are measured through a number of methods including the views of Assembly Members, public perceptions and engagement statistics, and internal measures.

“It is right that Wales’s law-making body should strive to reach the highest of standards, and that we should be fully accountable for our performance,” said the Chief Executive and Clerk of the Assembly Claire Clancy.

“That is why this new report is so important and valuable.

“I am proud of the people who work for the National Assembly for Wales and the commitment they all have to ensuring that we deliver exemplar parliamentary services.

“But we will always aim to do better and will be using the information to drive up standards and achieve best value for every pound of public money that we spend.”
