On Thursday afternoon, 24 November, an Assembly Committee met with Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove to receive the latest update on the UK Government's preparations for leaving the European Union and what it means for Wales.
The meeting with the National Assembly for Wales' External Affairs and Additional Legislation Committee is part of their continued work to scrutinise and protect Wales' interests throughout the process of leaving the European Union.
The Chair of the Committee, David Rees AM said:
"I welcomed today's opportunity to discuss some of the practical implications of Brexit with the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove. In particular it was useful to cover issues including consent arrangements for the Withdrawal Agreement Bill; the impact of Brexit on Welsh ports, and future trading relationships.
"We are clear that a 'no deal' exit would present significant challenges for Wales, not least in terms of difficulties for key sectors of our economy including food, farming, and manufacturing.
"Whether or not a deal with the European Union is ratified in the coming weeks, we will continue to examine how key sectors in Wales are preparing for various Brexit scenarios. In doing so we hope to have continued meaningful engagement with the UK Government."
