In response to the statement made today in the Senedd (Tuesday 28 February 2023), by the Welsh Government’s Minister for Health and Social Services, on the decision to put Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board back under special measures, Mark Isherwood MS, Chair of the Senedd’s Public Account and Public Administration Committee says:

“It is disappointing that two years since it was de-escelated from special measures, improvements have failed to materialise at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.

“The Senedd’s Public Account and Public Administration Committee has consistently highlighted its concerns around the oversight of the Health Board by Welsh Government and repeatedly raised questioned why the problems of leadership of the Board have not been identified and addressed sooner. The patients of north Wales deserve so much better, as do the dedicated front line healthcare workers who are being continuously let down by failures in leadership.

“The Committee will be watching developments closely and will conduct its own comprehensive scrutiny of these matters in a timely manner.”
