Pierhead welcomes 100,000th visitor

22 March 2011

The Pierhead welcomed its 100,000th visitor today (22 March) since it reopened on March 1 2010.

Steve Rowlands, from Seven Sisters, was met by the Assembly’s Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM.

The Assembly-owned Grade One listed building has been transformed into a visitor attraction designed to inform, involve and inspire people when they visit Cardiff Bay.

As well as hosting events for a range of organisations, the building also complements the work of the National Assembly in widening participation in the political process.

“We are proud to welcome the 100,000th visitor to the Pierhead - a fantastic facility that is open to everyone in Wales,” said Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM.

“The building tells the history of Cardiff Bay and devolution through a fantastic selection of interactive visitor attractions.

“It also encourages people to take a direct part in the political process by registering their views on the key topics that Assembly Members discuss.

“The Pierhead has also hosted a series of key events including the Pierhead Sessions last spring and this month’s talk with Noam Chomsky.”

Steve Rowlands said: “I can’t believe this! I’d only come to Cardiff for a day out, so I can’t get over being the 100,000th visitor!

“I wasn’t even going to come in, but then I saw the ‘free entry’ sign and thought I’d give it a go. I’m glad I did!”
