The Chair of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee, Nick Ramsay AM, has issued the following statement in response to the Wales Audit Office report on primary care out-of-hours services.

Mr Ramsay said:

"Out-of-hours services have an important role to play in providing urgent help to patients, at times when GP surgeries are closed.

"The Auditor General's report makes clear that these services are under pressure and are not meeting the national standards. There are also threats to the sustainability of these services due to staffing problems and issues with staff morale.

"The recommendations provide a sound basis for strengthening out-of-hours services and the Committee looks forward to considering this report in detail."
