The National Assembly for Wales will be supporting the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour by switching off all the lights in the Senedd between 20.30 and 21.30 on Saturday 28 March.

The World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour is an annual global event where people and organisations are encouraged to switch off their lights for one hour to raise awareness of energy use.

Presiding Officer, Dame Rosemary Butler AM added:

"We are very proud of our green credentials at the National Assembly and proud that we are supporting the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour again this year.

"Over 160 countries are expected to take part in Earth Hour this year. We should all be aware of our energy use and the impact that it has on the environment."

The Assembly has reduced its carbon footprint by 35% since 2008 and this is the fourth year that National Assembly has supported Earth Hour.

Peter Black AM, the National Assembly Commissioner with responsibility for the Assembly Estate and Sustainability said:

"We are proud to be supporting the World Wildlife Fund's Earth Hour event and I would urge everyone across Wales to demonstrate their support, if they are able to, by joining us in switching their lights off on Saturday night.

"We are committed to a greener and more environmentally-friendly Wales and that's why the environment was placed at the heart of the design of the Senedd with many innovative green features forming a central part of the building."
