Ten-year-olds invited to the Senedd as National Assembly for Wales marks its tenth birthday

Do you turn 10 on May 12 2009?

Youngsters born on May 12, 1999, are being offered the opportunity to celebrate their birthdays in style at the Senedd this year.

For their tenth birthday falls on the same day as the National Assembly for Wales, marks its tenth anniversary.

The Presiding Officer, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas is inviting 10 youngsters to join him and other Assembly Members, for a birthday party at the Senedd, in Cardiff Bay.

“Whilst it’s right that we look back at our achievements during this first decade of devolution, it’s more important than ever that we look to the future,” said the Presiding Officer.

“And that future is of course our young people, which is why we want to make them a central part of our programme of activities in the Senedd on May 12.

“The central theme for us this year is increasing participation in the democratic process in Wales – afterall that’s what devolution was intended to achieve.

“And as we mark ten years of devolution, what better way to do that than by putting youngsters at centre stage?”

Ten youngsters, together with a parent or guardian, will be invited to attend the birthday party at the Senedd which will take place on May 12 at 6pm.

As part of the prize youngster will be given a full tour of the Senedd here they’ll be able to learn more about the work of the National Assembly for Wales.

So youngsters born on May 12, 1999, are asked to send their name and contact details to either:

The closing date for entries is May 1 and then ten lucky names will then be drawn out of the hat and they will receive an invitation.

The birthday part is just one of a series of events taking place in the Senedd on May 12 to mark the 10th anniversary.

Others include a mock parliament for youngsters and a reception for current and former Assembly Members.
