Views on its Fourth Assembly work sought by Assembly's Health and Social Care Committee

With the 2016 Assembly election approaching, the National Assembly's Health and Social Care Committee wants to hear from people across Wales about their views on its work since 2011.

To help the Committee think about its legacy, it wants to know what people think about the work that it has done, how it has gone about its work, and the impact it has had. Before the Fifth Assembly starts its work in May 2016, the Committee also wants to hear views about what the key challenges are going to be for health and social care in the next five years.

Set up after the last Assembly election in 2011, the Committee's role has been to scrutinise legislation and hold the Welsh Government to account for policy and spending on health and social care in Wales.

Alongside its regular scrutiny sessions with Welsh Government Ministers and key office holders including the Chief Medical Officer and the Older People's Commissioner for Wales, the Committee has conducted more than 20 policy inquiries, and examined seven Bills.

David Rees AM, Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee, said:

"Scrutinising the Welsh Government's largest portfolio area in terms of spending has been a challenging and rewarding task. Our inquiries have covered the full range of our remit, from new psychoactive substances to residential care for older people and the availability of public toilets. We've also scrutinised landmark legislation including the Human Transplantation and Social Services and Well-being Bills.

"This consultation is an opportunity for people from across Wales to share their views on how our Committee has approached its wide-ranging work. To help us identify key lessons and best practice, we are keen to hear the views of those who have worked closely with us, those who have never engaged with our work, and everyone in between."

The closing date for the consultation is Friday 25 September 2015. You can find out more information about how to respond to the consultation on the Committee's website: www.assembly.wales/seneddhealth or following our twitter page: @seneddhealth
