Welsh Government makes good progress on Work Based Learning

22 October 2009

The Chair of the Audit Committee for the National Assembly for Wales has today welcomed a new report from the Auditor General on Work Based Learning.

The report is a follow-up to another study published in March 2006 which was critical of financial controls surrounding the Welsh Government’s scheme.

The latest report shows improvements have been made.

Today’s follow-up report by the Auditor General shows that the Assembly Government has made good progress in addressing earlier weaknesses in financial controls in Work Based Learning,” said Chair of the Audit Committee Jonathan Morgan AM.

However, the report also found that the Assembly Government has not applied important wider lessons from the earlier problems in Work Based Learning across each of its departments.”

The Assembly Government is going through organisational change and intends that new arrangements will ensure lessons learned from audit reports will be shared and applied more widely.”
