December 2001

  • Notice placed in the Official Journal of the European Community inviting expressions of interest for the appointment of a project management company. The remit of the company will be to provide all of the professional services the Assembly requires on the project to ensure that the contractor’s appointment is let on the most advantageous terms available and to protect its interests during the construction phase.

September 2001

  • Advertisement placed in the Official Journal of the European Community seeking expressions of interest from contractors to complete the design and construction of the building. A substantial number of expressions of interest were received from companies with a credible reputation.

August 2001

  • The site was closed down and secured until the contractor is appointed.
  • Hoardings erected to enclose the site and the public areas around the site and the Pierhead Building have been made safe and accessible to all.

July 2001

  • Piling completed. Temporary road around the Assembly Building site opened.
  • Assembly terminated the appointment of the Richard Rogers Partnership as the Architects. Work stopped on site at the end of the month following the Assembly’s decision to invite proposals from developers to complete the design and construction of the building.

 

May 2001

  • Piling commenced.

 

April 2001

  • Highway and services diversions continue.
  • Bulk excavation commenced to establish a piling platform to allow piling works to commence in May 2001.

 

March 2001

  • St David’s Day Groundbreaking ceremony. See Press Release for further information.
  • Contractor completed site compound and offices.

 

February 2001

  • Pre-construction activity started on site, including highway and services diversions.

 

January 2001

  • Scheme Design approved in January 2001, Detailed Design commenced.
