Hepatitis C and the Blood Borne Viral Action Plan for Wales

The National Assembly:

notes that while 14,000 people in Wales have Hepatitis C, a cancer- causing infectious virus, awareness of the condition remains low and many of those with the virus are not diagnosed and treated.

notes that in spite of the Government’s commitment to develop a Blood Borne Viral Hepatitis Action Plan since 2004, the plan has still not been launched.

calls on the Government to end five years of waiting and publish the Action Plan without delay to ensure that Wales does not continue to lag behind Scotland and England in tackling Hepatitis C.
