Epilepsy Deaths Register

The National Assembly for Wales:

1. Notes that:

  • in Wales, 1 in 94 people has epilepsy;

  • in the UK over 1000 people die each year of epilepsy-related causes; and

  • Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) accounts for half of these deaths.

2. Recognises the Epilepsy Deaths Register as a single point for reporting all epilepsy-related deaths in the UK and acknowledges its contribution to the research, awareness and treatment of epilepsy.

3. Calls on the Welsh Government to follow the UK Government by endorsing the Epilepsy Deaths Register.
