Safer Internet Day 2014 (11.02.2014)

This Assembly:

Acknowledges the internet as a fantastic learning resource for young people and children;

Regrettably notes that in 2012-13, 4,507 young people contacted ChildLine for support and advice on dealing with online bullying (87% increase on previous year);

Further notes than one in four 11-16 year olds with a social networking profile have experience some form of abuse on a social networking site, with 58% of young internet users unaware of the identity of the culprit;

Welcomes Safer Internet Day 2014 and recognises the importance of young people learning to use the internet safely, free from harm or abuse.
