Assembly Committee calls on Public Sector bodies to promote the Gift of Life

The Assembly’s Health, Wellbeing and Local Government Committee today called on public sector bodies in Wales to do more to publicise the NHS Organ Donor Register and Donor Cards.

The Committee’s report on presumed consent calls on the Assembly Government to see how public sector bodies in Wales can help publicise the Organ Donation Register and Donor Cards in the normal course of their work, including linking their websites to the Organ Donation Register website.

The Committee’s report, published today, says: “Public sector bodies are constantly sending information to the public [and] all public sector bodies in Wales run websites.”

Jonathan Morgan AM, Chair of the Committee, said: “Carrying a donor card and registering on the organ donor register can help save or transform the lives of others after you die.  It takes only a few minutes to register online and public sector bodies can help by providing information about registering when they send out public information or by simply linking to the organ donor register on their websites.”
