Audit Committee to discuss Better Schools Fund

16 February 2006

The Assembly Audit Committee will be taking evidence in connection with the Auditor General for Wales’s report into the Better Schools Fund at its next meeting.

The Auditor General, Jeremy Colman, found that the Better Schools Fund – the Assembly Government’s new system for providing grants to LEAs to help with training and development for teachers – was an improvement on the scheme it replaced. However, there are still challenges to be tackled. At the same meeting, Members will discuss the Assembly Government’s response to the Committee’s reports on the regulation of waste management in Wales and on NHS finances. The Committee will also consider the Auditor General’s final programme of value for money examinations 2006-07. The meeting takes place at 1.30pm on Thursday February 16 Full details and an agenda
