Committee seeks views on Bovine Tuberculosis

The National Assembly’s Rural Development Sub-committee has launched a public consultation as part of its scrutiny inquiry into TB in Wales. In August 2004, the Environment, Planning and Countryside Committee published the findings of its inquiry into bovine TB in Wales. In June 2007, the Independent Scientific Group (ISG) on Cattle published its final report entitled Bovine TB: The Scientific Evidence The Rural Development Sub-committee is acting quickly to revisit Bovine TB in the light of the recent report and would like to hear the views of individuals and organisations on the report of the ISG and the implementation of the EPC Committee’s recommendations. Chair of the sub-committee Alun Davies said: “Bovine TB continues to be a major issue for the farming community in Wales. It is clear that we need to continue our efforts in combating the disease; and the sub-committee hopes that the scrutiny inquiry can make a significant contribution to this. We therefore want to hear evidence on the subject from as wide a range of people and organisations as possible and I would urge anyone with an interest in Bovine TB in Wales to send us their views.” Further information on the Rural Development Sub-committee, including details of how to respond to the consultation.
