The National Assembly for Wales’s Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, formally received two paintings for the Assembly on Thursday 10 November.

The Assembly has been allocated the pictures by the Contemporary Arts Society for Wales (CASW) from its 2011 Distribution Exhibition.

The two CASW representatives who handed over the pictures were CASW Vice-Chair, Dr Christine Evans, and David Moore, CASW Distribution Exhibition Curator.

Presiding Officer, Rosemary Butler AM, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been presented with these two fantastic pictures to display here at the Assembly.

“We have superb artists here in Wales, and I’m thrilled that we can support the Contemporary Arts Society by displaying their gifts in the home of Welsh democracy.

“There is a huge focus on the Assembly with thousands of visitors from all parts of the UK, as well as the rest of the world, so what better place to show off Wales’s heritage and artistic excellence”.

Mr Moore said: "Around 80 artworks from the Contemporary Art Society for Wales have, in this year's distribution, been allocated around the country to museums, galleries, universities and the National Assembly for Wales.

“They were on exhibition at Museum of Modern Art Wales, Machynlleth, earlier in the year. These works will enhance and complement public collections of art from Wales and have been very well received.

“The Assembly has received two expressionist style landscapes; one is a 2003 oil on canvas by Veronica Gibson of Glyn Collwn in the Brecon Beacons National Park; the other a c.2004 hand-coloured linoprint by Anthony Evans entitled Yn y Berllan."
