Countryside Committee to take evidence from supermarket chiefs on dairy strategy

AMs on the Assembly’s Environment, Planning and Countryside Committee will be able to quiz supermarket chiefs about milk prices at their next meeting. Representatives from Tesco and Sainsbury will be attending the meeting as part of the Committee’s consideration of the Assembly Government’s dairy strategy consultation. Glyn Davies AM, Chair of the Committee, said: “The dairy industry in Wales is facing real difficulties and it is vital that the government gets its strategy right. I am very pleased that Members will be able to talk to Tesco and Sainsbury. At a future meeting we will be taking evidence from the farmers’ unions.” At the same meeting, the Committee will be discussing the environment, planning and countryside budget, and looking at how the Assembly Government has implemented recommendations from previous Committee reports, for example on bovine TB, affordable housing and recycling. The meeting takes place at 9.30am, Wednesday February 7, in Committee Room 1, Senedd, Cardiff Bay.
