Enterprise and Learning Committee publishes its report on the petition to re-open Carno railway station.

The National Assembly’s Enterprise and Learning Committee has published its report on re-opening Carno railway station. The report followed a petition presented to the Assembly calling for the station to be re-opened. The Committee met in the town to discuss the issue and took evidence from the Carno Station Action Group and Key stakeholders. This is the first report of its kind to come out of the petitions system that was launched after the election in May. The Committee found that although it would be difficult to justify the case for a new station at Carno on the estimated number of new passengers alone, there may be a case linked to the wider objectives of supporting a rural community and encouraging the regeneration of the area. Gareth Jones AM, Chair of the Committee, said: “This report and the meeting at which the committee took evidence demonstrates democracy in action. It is very important that the Assembly considers the aspirations of the communities of Wales and the petitions system gives them the opportunity for their voices to be heard.” Report
