Enterprise and Learning Committee to scrutinise Minister on School Funding

The Enterprise and Learning Committee will scrutinise Jane Hutt AM, Minister for Children, Education Lifelong Learning and Skills on progress in implementing the recommendations of the Committee on School Funding report on School Funding Arrangements in Wales at its next meeting on Wednesday November 21.

The Committee will also discuss its response to the Department for Transport consultation on Use of Seat Belts and Child Restraints by Child Passengers on Buses and Coaches and will agree the terms of reference for its inquiry into the economic contribution of higher education in Wales.

Chair of the Committee Gareth Jones said “The Committee on School Funding worked very hard during the Second Assembly to examine all the issues surrounding the so-called “funding fog” affecting schools in Wales and it is therefore important that we follow this piece of work up by properly scrutinising the minister on her progress in implementing the recommendations made in the report. The budget scrutiny carried out by the Committee has shown that there are major concerns over the transparency of school funding and whether it is adequate to cope with issues such as the backlog in the school building investment programme.“

The meeting takes place in Committee Room 1, The Senedd from 9.00am – 11.45pm on Wednesday November 21.
