Finance Committee to hold inquiry into Foundation Phase

The National Assembly’s Finance Committee will tomorrow (Thursday May 22) take evidence for its inquiry into the cost and finance available for the introduction of the Welsh Government’s new Foundation Phase for the education of three-to-seven-year-olds.

Education Minister Jane Hutt will attend the meeting to explain the Foundation Phase and Members will be taking evidence from the WLGA and Association of Directors of Education Wales, the National Union of Head Teachers and the NUT.

Alun Cairns AM, Chair of the Committee, said: “There has been concern about the cost of the Foundation Phase on local authorities, so I think it will be very worthwhile for the Committee to look into this. I am pleased that the Minister will be attending the meeting to respond to the written evidence we have received.”

The meeting takes place at 10am on Thursday May 22 in Committee Room 3, Senedd
