Have your say on the National Assembly’s equality strategy

5 October 2011

The National Assembly for Wales's Equality team is developing a new strategic equality plan and would like interested individuals and organisations to feed in to the process.

The Assembly’s current equality plan runs until 2012 and, in line with the Equality Act 2010, it is developing a new one that will be published in April 2012.

In particular, the Equalities team wants to know:

  • How can the Assembly’s buildings be made more accessible?

  • In what ways could the Assembly do more to engage with diverse communities and minority groups in Wales?

  • What kind of events should the Assembly be holding / attending to challenge discrimination, promote equality and foster good relations between different people?

  • What do you think stops or discourages people from becoming more involved with the Assembly’s work?

A full list of questions is available here and the consultation will close on 30 November.

Sandy Mewies AM, the Assembly’s Commissioner with responsibility for equalities, said: “A key priority for the Assembly is ensuring we’re doing everything possible to engage with the people of Wales in order to widen participation in the democratic process.

“The Assembly wants to remain an organisation that is committed to promoting equality and valuing diversity, so we’d invite the public and representative organisations to have their say.”

The Assembly’s annual equality report for 2010 is available here.
