“Hay in the Bay” as Pierhead becomes focal point for series of discussions on the big issues facing Wales

The iconic Pierhead building will become a focal point for a series of political and cultural events that have been dubbed “Hay in the Bay”.

The inaugural Pierhead Sessions will take place on 4, 5 & 6 March and will include a series of events, discussions and lectures on issues ranging from the environment to the future of journalism. The lineup for the sessions includes star names such as environmentalist George Monbiot, and political journalists Kevin McGuire and Andrew Pierce.

One session, on Thursday 4th March, will see the Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM and his counterpart from the Northern Ireland Assembly, William Hay MLA, in conversation about their roles.

“One of the National Assembly’s main objectives is to increase participation in the democratic process and debate in Wales,” said Lord Elis-Thomas.

“That’s why these sessions will reflect what the burning issues of the day in Welsh culture, politics and media.

These sessions will also be able to be viewed in full on the Pierhead Sessions website

“It is a chance for us to discuss issues ranging from the arts to the political issues of the day to what we all should be eating in future.

“It’s an event inform, involve and inspire people from the whole of Wales.”

There are 10 sessions taking place over a period of three days including a social gaming event on Saturday, 6th March, The 2050 Cookbook session on the same day which will look at what we’ll be eating in 40 years time and a keynote speech on 5th March from environmentalist George Monbiot.
