National Assembly Committee undertakes inquiry into home adaptations

11 December 2012

The National Assembly for Wales’s Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee has begun a public consultation to inform its inquiry into home adaptations in Wales.

The Committee will consider the following:

  • Why there are still significant variations in the time it takes to deliver aids and adaptations funded by Disabled Facilities Grants across Wales?

  • Has sufficient progress been made on implementing recommendations from the Equality of Opportunity Committee’s 2009 report on home adaptations?

  • The impact that reduced resources for housing are likely to have on the provision of home adaptations?

  • Is the Welsh Government effectively monitoring the provision of adaptation services?

  • What more needs to be done to improve home adaptation services in Wales?

“The feeling of losing your independence because of an injury, illness or a lack of mobility because of age can be very stressful,” said Ann Jones AM, Chair of the Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee.

“So it is important that the systems and equipment that can assist in maintaining that independence work well and are installed in a timely and convenient manner.

“We want to hear the experiences of people across Wales on this issue. I would urge anyone who has used or been involved in using home adaptation services, either for themselves or a friend or relative, to have their say.”

Anyone wishing to contribute to the consultation can either email: celg.committee@wales.gov.uk or write to: Clerk to the Communities, Equality and Local Government Committee, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, CF99 1NA.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 1 February 2013.
